“Alarm Curtain morninʼ plus”

Overview of the awarded product

“morninʼ plus“ is a home appliance that automatically opens the curtains when itʼs time for the user to wake up and so creates a natural and comfortable awakening by sunlight. It is the successor to the original “morninʼ” smartphone-linked automatic curtain opening and closing appliance released in 2016. We have completely rethought the entire internal structure of the appliance from scratch but retained the innovative mounting mechanism that makes it possible for the appliance to be installed with just one hand and without using any tools, while the external profile of the item fits snugly into the back of the curtain pleats. We have also responded to user requests and made various improvements such as increasing the operating power and the corresponding curtain rail, improved the accuracy of the internal clock in the main body of the appliance, and incorporated a mechanism that allows the curtains to be opened and closed by hand after installation. Without making any changes to the normal, everyday lives that our users have been living up to now, they will be able to enjoy a more natural curtain opening and closing experience and a more pleasant awakening every morning as a result.

Designer’s Comments

“It is designed with the aim of being an efficient and effective automatic curtainopening and closing appliance featuring all the appropriate functions and an attractive appearance. We succeeded in developing and creating a prototype (with its shape designed to fit the volume of the pleat section of the curtain which is the position for the installation) on the basis of the old model, and in finishing it off in a purer, sleeker form by minimizing the modeling elements. At the same time, we also reorganized the main body interface to enhance ease of operation and improve usability. Simultaneously, a drastic redesign of dedicated applications is also being implemented. To sum up we have designed the appliance from the overall viewpoint and aim of ensuring that the product will be suitable for comfortable use.”

Good Design Award Evaluation Comment by the Judging Committee

“Every morning the curtain opens automatically, and I wake up to the morning sun. It didnʼt appear to be a product that was likely to be able to produce such an ideal morning. Even after installation, I can still open and close the curtains manually, and the appliance is now easier to use thanks to the increase in the corresponding curtain rail, solving the problem posed by the previous model of the appliance. As the scope of the infrastructure for IoT technology continues to expand and the number and range of objects that can be controlled from smartphones increases, I look forward with great expectation to further expansion, into areas other than curtains, of the ʻconvenienceʼ and ʻcomfortʼ that will be offered and available in the future.”
